What is the Loula directory?

The Loula directory is a searchable database that prospective clients who want to be connected with a doula can browse. If they feel like your profile matches what they are looking for, they can submit a quick form that will be routed to you via email.

You can find the directory at https://directory.joinloula.com

Once you've been credentialed with a plan through Loula, you will be added to the Loula directory.

How does the Loula Client Referrals program work?

Currently the Loula Client Referrals program is a completely email-based. When interested clients express interest in you, we will send you an email with the form response. You will receive these emails from [email protected]

Important notes:

The program is free and offered as a pro bono service to doulas and clients.
Loula does not guarantee referrals. While some doulas may receive multiple inquiries, others may receive few or none.
Loula does not charge doulas for referrals.
Out of courtesy, respond to all referrals, even if you are not able to take the referral on.

How do I find my Loula directory profile?

To find your Loula directory profile,

Log into Loula.
On the navigation menu, find the Referrals section

This should take you to your custom Loula Directory page, where you can edit your Loula Directory page. To view your Loula Directory page, click "Go to live profile"

Your profile will automatically include the following fields:

Your Name
Business Name (if given)
Location
Pronouns (if given)
Languages spoken (if given)
Race/Ethnicity (if given)
Health Plans
- Only the health plans you are actively credentialed with here will show up. When you are credentialed with new plans, new plans will be added to your profile.
Service Area
- The counties you serve

We pull all of this information from the onboarding packet you submitted when you joined Loula.

Editing/customizing your Loula Profile

We want these profiles to show off the amazing work and experience you're doing.

You can make edits to your Loula profile in the Referrals > Loula Directory page.

On the upper righthand corner, find the button that says Edit Profile.

This will open the Edit Profile drawer, which is subdivided into four sections:

Services Provided
Service Area
About Me

In the Header tab, you may edit:

Name
- This field is required
Business Name
Website
Pronouns
Profile Picture
City
- This field is required
Race/Ethnicity
Languages

In the Services tab, you may edit:

Year you started doula work
Doula Type
- Full-spectrum
- Prenatal/Birth only
- Postpartum only
Mode of support
- Both in-person and telehealth
- In-person only
- Telehealth only

In the Service Area tab, you may edit:

Counties Served
- For every county served, you need to select whether you serve the county in-person or remotely

In the About Me tab, you may add an:

About Me section

What should I write in the About Me section?

The About Me section is the place where you can to present a personal touch to your profile.

Clients often want to know answers the following:

What training have you had? Are you certified, and through whom?
What is your experience with birth, both personally and as a doula?
What is your philosophy about birth and supporting clients and their partners through labor?
How do you like to work with clients during the prenatal, birthing, or postpartum stages?
How do you like to communicate with clients?
Do you have back-up doulas who you may work with if you are not available?

A good About Me section can be anywhere from roughly 100 - 500 words. In general, the more information you are able to provide, the better. This will help clients feel confident in taking that first step to getting in touch!
