Loula Directory: a guide for doulas

Loula Directory: a guide for doulas

What is the Loula directory and how does it work?

Updated over a week ago

This feature is in Beta, which means that it might not be fully functional all the time. If you have any specific questions related to the Loula Directory, you can email [email protected].

What is the Loula directory?

The Loula directory is a searchable database that prospective clients who want to be connected with a doula can browse. If they feel like your profile matches what they are looking for, they can submit a quick form that will be routed to you via email.

You can find the directory at https://joinloula.com/find-a-doula.

Once you've been credentialed with a plan through Loula, you will be added to the Loula directory. To find your Loula directory profile, you can navigate to the Loula Directory, then type in your name in the Search by Doula Name field.

We update the directory on a 2-week cadence, so it may take some time for your profile to be created. If you have questions related to your profile, you may email [email protected] at any time.

Your profile will automatically include the following fields:

  • Your Name

  • Business Name (if given)

  • Location

  • Pronouns (if given)

  • Languages spoken (if given)

  • Race/Ethnicity (if given)

  • Health Plans

    • Only the health plans you are actively credentialed with here will show up. When you are credentialed with new plans, we will add these plans to your Loula profile during our biweekly updates.

  • Service Area

    • The counties you serve

We pull all of this information from the onboarding packet you submitted when you joined Loula.

How referrals work

Important notes:

  • There are no additional fees taken from a Loula referral. We are providing this referral service as a courtesy to you. The rates that we pay for visits associated with a Loula referral is the same as the rates that we pay for visits for clients you bring on yourself.

  • You are not obligated to take on a Loula referral. We respect your autonomy. If you do not have the capacity to support a client or do not feel like it's the right fit, you do not have to take them on as a client.

  • Please respond to all referrals, even if you don't have the capacity to support them.

All Loula Directory profiles features a Get in touch button. This allows prospective clients to fill out a HIPAA-compliant form where they provide details related to their pregnancy and what type of doula services they are looking for.

When a prospective client fills out the form, we automatically will route these form submissions via email to you. You will receive an email from [email protected] with the subject line New client referral from Loula.

Please respond to ALL client inquiries by emailing them directly or reaching out to the phone number they provided.

We allow you the flexibility of coordinating with the client independently.

You are should work with the client to:

  • Determine if working with them is a good fit

  • Collect their insurance information

Important: Out of courtesy for these prospective clients, please do respond to them even if you know you can't take them on! It can be a simple message to let them know you don't currently have the capacity to support them.

What should I do if I am want to take-on a Loula referral as a client?

Great! We are glad to hear that we've made a match! Create the client on the Loula Portal (app.joinloula.com) as you would for any other client. In the last step of the Create client flow, make sure to select that the client was referred by Loula.

That's it! Everything else with clients that come through Loula referrals will work the same exact way.

Editing/customizing your Loula Profile

We want these profiles to show off the amazing work and experience you're doing. You can make edits to your Loula profile and customize your Loula profile by filling out this following Google Form:

Updates are made on a biweekly cadence. If you urgently want your profile to be updated, you can let us know at [email protected], and we can expedite the process.

Fill in the form above in the exact content you want to be displayed on your Loula profile.

You may customize/edit the following fields:

  • Name

  • Location

  • Business Name

  • Website

  • Race/Ethnicity

  • About Me

  • Profile Photo

  • Languages spoken

  • What type of services you provide (i.e. full-spectrum, prenatal/birth only, postpartum only)

  • How you provide your services (i.e. in-person, telehealth)

What should I write in the About Me section?

The About Me section is the place where you can to present a personal touch to your profile.

Clients often want to know answers the following:

  • What training have you had? Are you certified, and through whom?

  • What is your experience with birth, both personally and as a doula?

  • What is your philosophy about birth and supporting clients and their partners through labor?

  • How do you like to work with clients during the prenatal, birthing, or postpartum stages?

  • How do you like to communicate with clients?

  • Do you have back-up doulas who you may work with if you are not available?

A good About Me section can be anywhere from roughly 100 - 500 words. In general, the more information you are able to provide, the better. This will help clients feel confident in taking that first step to getting in touch!
